NEWS FLASH
:  Legislation has been passed by Federal Parliament which will bring separating defacto couples under the Family Law Act. The amendments have not yet commenced and it is anticipated they will be proclaimed to commence shortly.  The new legislation will allow defacto couples (including same sex couples) to have their property and spouse maintenance disputes heard in the Family Court rather than the State Supreme and District Courts.  If this legislation affects you it is recommended that you obtain legal advice before taking any step which might affect your rights under the new legislation.
